Anyone who knows me knows I am THEEE Beyonce fan. I’ve been to every tour, seen every TV special and have every. last. album. So there was no way I was missing the Queen headline Coachella. And this was my second attempt, because as we all know her 2017 appearance was cancelled because of her beautiful surprise (to us) double blessings. But once she confirmed her 2018 set, I wasn’t about to miss what I knew was going to be a game changing performance. And I made sure this time I was there Weekend 1.
Day 1 of Coachella was awesome, the anticipation that builds to such a huge music event is indescribable and then when you arrive you are enveloped in people and pure vibe! We were there to witness great acts on Day 1 with acts like SZA and The Weekend stealing the show. Overall the style, the swag, the vibe of coachella is just about being your true self. Playing with color and style allow for the opportunity to be true to you...with a little extra shine. At Coachella there’s no judgement, no second guessing; just you, the music, the vibe, and freedom.
Day 2: THE MAIN EVENT! The first black woman to headline Coachella, and after 11 hours in the blazing sun I was front row! Beyonce did not disappoint, not only did she snatch my entire soul, but being up close got me some one-on-one Bey action! Yes hunny she waved at ME! (No delusions, I have a video!) Her performance was next level, Queen Nefertiti, a full on Marching Band, a whole homecoming themed show that paid homage to everyone who’s experienced even a moment of an HBCU. It was every bit of black excellence and It still renders me speechless.
